Students from all over the world have benefited from the Mansion House Scholars Scheme. Details of some of our Scholars and their Scholarships are outlined below.

Greece

An award of £5,500 to Miss Eleni Stathaki.
Aged 30 and a lawyer in the legal department of a large Greek construction company, Miss Stathaki was selected to participate in the European Young Lawyers Scheme run by the College of Law in London in 2006. She is a graduate of Athens University and studied also in The Hague and in Kiel.

Vietnam

An award of £8,500 to Miss Nguyen Thu Ha.
Aged 26, Thu Ha had been working for the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Hanoi. She is a graduate of the Foreign Trade University in Hanoi and studied for an MBA Degree at Aston University in 2005. She subsequently spent one year on an internship with the City firm of Deloittes and has since returned to Vietnam.

Malta

An award of £3,000 to Mr James Farrugia.
Mr Farrugia is a 28 year old scholar from the Maltese Financial Services Authority. He was a senior member of the Securities Unit with responsibility for licensing and oversight of investment funds and holds a Master’s Degree in Financial Services from the University of Malta. Mr Farrugia spent three weeks attached to Barclays Capital, Canary Wharf in November 2005, working in their Global Financial Risk Management Division.

China

An award of £5,000 to Mr Li Xiaoyu.
Mr Li is Deputy General Manager of the Vehicle Insurance Department of the Chongqing Branch of PICC Property and Casualty Company td - one of the biggest insurance companies in China. He was awarded his Mansion House Scholarship in February 2006 during a visit to China by the Lord Mayor and began his studies in September 2006 for a Masters’ Course in Risk and Stochastics at the London School of Economics.

Kazakhstan

An award of £7,500 to Mr Temirlan Omarzhanov.
Mr Omarzhanov, aged 30, is currently the acting President of Deutsche Bank Securities in Kazakhstan. He is one of the first Kazakh nationals to manage a local subsidiary of a major multinational company. He has a Bachelors Degree in International Relations from Karaganda State University and was selected to study for an MSc Degree in Investment Management at Cass Business School starting in September 2007.

Brazil

An award of £7,500 to Mrs Thais Linhares-Juvenal.
Aged 37, Mrs Linhares-Juvenal is a senior economist in the Environment Department of BNDES – the Brazilian National Development Bank. She is a graduate of the University of Rio de Janeiro and was accepted to study for a Master’s Degree in Sustainable Development at the London School of Economics. Her course in London began in September 2007.
